Utah pay stub requirements

Governed by Utah Code § 34-28-3 and Admin. Rules R610. This guide covers the mandatory items on every wage statement, penalties for non-compliance, and a checklist for UT employers.

Utah requires an itemized statement each pay period showing hours, rates, gross pay, deductions, and net pay. The Utah Labor Commission's Wage Claim Unit enforces the rule.

Penalties

Employees may recover unpaid wages plus a penalty of 5% per day (capped at 20 days) under § 34-28-5, plus attorney's fees for successful claimants.

Record retention

At least three years to align with federal FLSA rules; Labor Commission recommends the same.

Electronic wage statements

Allowed, provided employees can access and print records at no cost.
